Hepatocellular carcinoma and hepatitis B virus

Although primary liver cancer is of rare occurrence in North America and Europe, it is very common in many areas of the world, particularly in Oceania, South-East Asia, and tropical Africa and is among the ten most common human cancers. The hepatitis B virus (HBV) is one of the first human viruses for which an etiological association with a human cancer has been established.
