The Surface-Reaction Products Obtained by Carburizing Fe-Si Alloy in a CO Atmosphere at 1223–1323 K

Our previous papers1, 2 presented research on the kinetics of carburizing a pure ion foil, containing controlled amounts of oxygen (1400–1420 ppm), in an atmosphere of carbon monoxide. It was stated that at 1223–1323 K, owing to the Bouduard reaction 2CO = CFe + CO2, carburization occurs with a simultaneous deoxidation in the solid state. The kinetics of the reaction were studied, its mechanisms were determined and the activation energy and the diffusion coefficient of oxygen in iron were calculated.
