In this chapter we introduce the object—oriented programming paradigm and other related subjects for object—oriented software construction. The term “object—oriented programming” has recently become very popular. Many applications of object—oriented programming and software design principles exist and there are many journals and scientific publications which are specialized in the philosophy and the possibilities of object—oriented systems. The following sections can only summarize the fundamental concepts of object—oriented programming languages. The interested reader may find more information in the references. A recommended summary can be found in [Bus92].
