Object–oriented programming in C++ is much easier if a general class library for common programming tools is used, as, for example, NIHCL [Gor90]. The image processing classes in ĭππоς [Pau92b] use the NIHCL library and provide an environment for object–oriented image processing. Recently, hidden Markov models (HMM), hierarchies of segmentation algorithms, and an object–oriented knowledge base have augmented ĭππоς to an object–oriented image analysis system.
