Hydrohalic acid anion interaction with platinum surfaces: Pt(110) – iodide

Abstract

In this chapter the experimental results on adsorption of iodide ion on Pt(110) surface is described.

Iodide adsorbs in 10−3 M KI + 10−2 M KOH solution at 180 mV (RHE) and desorbs at 100 mV and forms a (4 × 1) adlayer under all conditions.

In 0.1 NaOH iodide adsorbs at 0.6 V and desorbs at 0.7 V (SHE).

In pure H2SO4 or NaOH iodide adsorbs at negative potentials leaving an unreconstructed (1x1) surface behind with smaller terraces [1, 2].
