The enhanced thermal stability of polypyromellitimide (PI) is due to the incorporation of rigid aromatic and heterocyclic rings in the backbone chain of the polymer. In the present paper, the relation of chain rigidity with the orientation of molecules was looked for in the dynamic mechanical and thermal shrinkage behaviors of the stretched PI films.
