Abstract

The flow behavior of melts or concentrated solutions of high molecular weight polymers seems to be dominated by the entanglement phenomenon. Although the detailed nature of the entanglements is not entirely understood, it is a common assumption to consider the polymer molecules in a melt or a concentrated solution organized in a network of which the entanglements are the junctions. These junctions are of course only temporary; they can slide along the chains, disappear and reform continuously.
