Abstract

A new aspect of deformation or warping has evolved from the laboratory investigations which were designed to study the shrinkage cracking of soil-cement base. A one-inch thick soil-cement slab (fine-grained soil), upon drying from the top face, first deforms with a concave surface at the top and gradually assumes an opposite curvature with convex surface at the top (fig. 1).
