Introduction to the Interview Process
The interviews presented here are those I personally conducted with highly self-actualized people. They will be contrasted with those assessed as medium and as low on the scale of self-actualization.1 We are primarily concerned with the qualitative differences in their experience of life and in their attitudes toward death. Relative fear of death was assessed on an overall clinical evaluation of the interviews and on phenomenal, that is, subjectively experienced, time perspectives.
