EXCIRSIZE — An Expert System for VLSI Transistor Sizing
The task of circuit sizing in the custom design of a circuit for VLSI fabrication involves the assignment of dimensions to the regions of overlapping material which will constitute the individual transistors. This task occurs after the implementation of the switching logic has been chosen. and provides requirements for the generation of the fabrication masks. The dimensions of the transistors determine their performance characteristics. such as switching delay. loading capacitance power consumption, etc. Since generally sw aching delay is inversely related to the area. power consumption and loading capacitance: circuit sizing requires expertise in finding a suitable compromise among hese parameters.
