Analysis of Ingot Tin

Abstract

In general, methods for the analysis of tin/lead solders apply equally well to ingot tin. Specifications for ingot tin are covered by ‘B.S. 3252: Ingot Tin’, DIN 1704, UNI 3271 (Italy) and ‘ASTM B 339.72 Pig Tin’. Table 1 gives the specifications for these standards. In addition to standard grades of tin, high purity metals of 99.99% Sn and 99.999% Sn are produced in industrial quantities by Capper Pass Ltd.; smaller quantities of higher purity metal are available from laboratory supply houses. In most cases, ingot tin is sold under brand names with consistent and defined impurity levels.
