Abstract

The ototoxic action of streptomycin has been recognised ever since the introduction of this potent antibiotic into the treatment of tuberculosis and other infections. There have been numerous publications describing the results, often contradictory, of experimental studies of the site of the toxic action of streptomycin in the inner ear of animals. The effect of streptomycin on tissue cultures of fibroblasts and of the skin has also been studied.
