Zusammenfassung

In 2012, when I was looking for a rental flat in Cologne, Germany, a Turkish exile, a well-known founder of a Marxist guerrilla group in Turkey, advised me to tell landlords/landladies that I am a university researcher to overcome the disadvantages of being a migrant and increase my chances to find a flat. Searching for a rental apartment is one of the most obvious interactions where the role of symbolic capital is brutally practiced. He then told me about his own experiences with rental search.
