Werner Blum served as a member of the PISA Mathematics Expert Group from late 2000 until after the completion of the PISA 2012 survey. He was also a member of the Questionnaire Expert Group for the duration of the PISA 2012 survey preparation period. He provided an important theoretical perspective to the thinking and work of the MEG, much of which was based in his expertise in the teaching of mathematical modelling, and very concrete and practical guidance to the complex and wide-ranging work of the group. This article documents and celebrates Werner Blum’s contribution, from the perspective of MEG colleagues and collaborators.
