Stuttgart Rapid-Transit Railway, Hasenberg Tunnel, Contract Section 15

Abstract

The Hasenberg Tunnel on the Stuttgart Rapid-Transit Railway provides an underground connection between Schwabstraße Station in the city centre and the suburb of Vaihingen (Fig. 26.1), [26.1, 26.2] The tunnel, which climbs some 150 m between Schwabstraße and University Station, was sub-divided into four sections for construction (Figs. 26.1 and 26.2). Two single-track tunnels were driven in Section 13, these combining into a two-track tunnel at the transition into Section 14. The tunnels in both these sections were driven by underground means. At the end of Section 14, the tunnel enters University Station (Section 15), the latter being built using the cut-and-cover method of construction. The two-track tunnel in Section 16 continues beyond the station and connects with the existing local railway in Vaihingen (Figs. 26.1 and 26.2).
