Zusammenfassung

Der Begriff „Lebensqualität“ ist derzeit ein häufig gebrauchtes Schlagwort in gesundheitspolitischen Diskussionen sowie in medizinischen Publikationen. Als eigenständiger Begriff im Index Medicus findet er sich erst seit 1977. Vor allem durch die Veröffentlichungen von Croog et al. (1986), in denen die Effekte antihypertensiver Therapie auf die Lebensqualität („quality of life“) beschrieben wurden, gewannen diesbezügliche Untersuchungen zunehmend an Bedeutung, was sich an der Vielzahl wissenschaftlicher Publikationen und Kongreßthemen zu diesem Begriff belegen läßt (Tüchler u. Lutz 1991; Bullinger et al. 1991; Vaitl 1991 a).
