Dipolar relaxation enhancement in inhomogeneous systems. Application to the oxygen evolving complex of plant photosynthesis.

Abstract

In two recent papers [1,2] we have demonstrated that information can be gleaned on the oxidation states of the Mn cluster of the oxygen evolving complex (OEC) of plants by carefully measuring the spin-lattice relaxation curves of a stable, tyrosyl radical, D, which is normally presented in reaction centers of photosystem II in photosynthetically active preparations.
