Electron Spin Echo Studies of Nonradiative Molecular Triplet States

Abstract

Excited molecular triplet states that are short-lived and nonradiative cannot be studied by cw electron paramagnetic resonance or by any method based on optical detection of the magnetization. It will be shown that electron-spin-echo (ESE) detection in combination with pulsed laser excitation has become a very useful tool to investigate such paramagnetic states. Results will be reported for the hitherto inaccessible lowest triplet state of polyenals and of pyridine.
