Abstract

Kinetic HH/HD/DD isotope and liquid/solid state effects on intra— and inter-molecular double proton transfer reactions of organic compounds have been studied using high resolution liquid and solid state NMR techniques. From these studies information on the reaction pathways are obtained. It is shown that incoherent thermally activated proton tunneling plays a major role in these reactions.
