The Valence States and Interaction between Chromium Ions in Lithium-Borate Glasses
The valence states and interaction between chromium ions in xCr2O3(1-x) [2B203-Li2O] glasses with 0.5≤ x ≤ 20 mol % Cr2O3 were studied by EPR and magnetic susceptibility measurements. EPR spectra indicate the presence of both Cr3+ and Cr5+ ions. For concentrations x ≥ 3 mol % Cr2O3 the isolated Cr3+ ions coexist with those coupled by dipole-dipole or super-exchange interactions.
