Single Crystal ESR Studies of Transition metal (o-Benzene-Diselenolate) 2- [BDS] and (o-Benzenedithiolate) 2- [BDT] Complexes: Potential Synthetic Metal Precursors

Abstract

Single crystal ESR studies of n-Bu4N[Ni(bds)2], n-Bu4N[Ni(bdt)2], and n-Bu4N[Cu(bds)2] and n-Bu4N[CQ(bdt)2] doped with 1 mole percent of nickel are reported as a function of crystal orientation relative to the magnetic field direction over the temperature range of 100-300 K. In addition, ESR studies of polycrystalline n-Bu4N[Cu(bds)2] and n- Bu4N[Cu(bdt)2] doped with 1 mole percent of nicxel, and of n- Bu4N[Co(bds)2] and n-Bu4N[Co(bdt)2] over the temperature range of 100-3 00 K are reported. The results are interpreted in terms of the crystal structures of the transition metal complexes known to date. The nature of the crystalline phase transition observed in n-Bu4N[Ni(bds)2] is described in greater detail, also.
