Deuterium Quadrupole Echo and Carr-Purcell Echo Relaxation in Chemically Exchanging Systems

Abstract

A full theoretical description is presented of quadrupole echo and Can - Purcell echo experiments for the case of two-site exchange. Complimentary 2H NMR experiments, performed on suitable model systems, are in quantitative agreement with the theoretical predictions. It is argued that in many cases such pulse experiments are advantageous or even necessary for a reliable and quantitative analysis of dynamic effects in 2H NMR spectroscopy of solids.
