Abstract

The first radio-frequency muon spin resonance experiments making use of the recently installed pulsed positive-muon beam at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory are reported. In a special “Venetian-blind” arrangement iron foils have been investigated in the neighbourhood of the Curie temperature.From a resonance signal attributed to muons trapped by monovacancies a vacancy formation enthalpy in bcc iron of 1.6 eV is estimated.
