Abstract

The pressure dependence of the Knight shift and the NMR line width in 7Li (up to 8GPa) and 23Na (up to 6 GPa) at room temperature was measured in a diamond anvil cell (DAC). In Li the structural bcc-fcc phase transition is observed by a marked decrease of both the Knight shift and the line width at ~ 6.2 GPa. The data yield information about the volume dependence of the electronic structure and the selfdiffusion of the two metals.
