EPR Evidence for an Intermediate Premartensitic Transition in Pb3(PO4)2

The presence of an intermediate phase around the ferroelastic transition point of Pb3(PO4)2 compound is studied by means of electron paramagnetic resonSnce.The EPR spectra of V4+ in different concentration were analized as a function of temperature in all phases of Pb3(PO4)2. The temperature dependence of the EPR spectra shape is discussed in relation with the existence of an incommensurate premartensitic phase in lead orthophosphate.
