NQR Study of CU in YBa2Cu3O6.95

Abstract

We report on Cu nuclear spin-lattice relaxation measurements on polycrystalline powder samples of the high — T C superconductor YBa2Cu3O6.95 (TC=92 K) in the temperature range between 4.5 K to 280 K. Above as well as below T C the spin-lattice relaxation is mainly magnetic in origin. Whereas down to about 35 K the relaxation rates are controlled by the interaction of the Cu nuclear magnetic moments with the conduction electrons, at low temperatures a second spin relaxation mechanism becomes dominant.
