Zusammenfassung

Die Cytologie des Magens ist eine Exfoliativcytologie. Die mikroskopische Untersuchung des sog. Magennüchterninhaltes auf Zellen, insbesondere auf Leukocyten, die durch die Magenschleimhaut in das Magenlumen ausgewandert sind, spielt keine diagnostische Rolle mehr. Diese Methode wurde in der 4. Auflage dieses Handbuches kurz dargestellt. Die geschichtliche Entwicklung der Exfoliativcytologie des Magens läßt sich in drei Abschnitte gliedern: 1. die bis ins letzte Jahrhundert zurückreichenden ersten Versuche, Zellmaterial von der Magenschleimhaut unter klinischen Bedingungen zu gewinnen und mikroskopisch zu untersuchen, 2. der systematische Ausbau einer klinischen Magencytologie und 3. die Entwicklung endoskopisch gezielter Entnahmetechniken.
