Zusammenfassung

Epidemiologische Daten zeigen eine exponentielle Zunahme der Behinderung mit dem Alter. Die Pathophysiologie der Behinderungsentstehung zeigt die möglichen Ansätze zur Prävention. Es gibt eine Liste von Vorsorgemaßnahmen, die bei periodischen Untersuchungen älterer Menschen berücksichtigt werden sollten. Bei präventiven Programmen im Alter sind zudem besonders zu berücksichtigen: der Affekt (mögliche Depression), der Alkoholkonsum, die Ernährung, funktionelle Einschränkungen im Alltag, Hör- und Sehfunktion, die Kognition, die Komorbidität, die körperliche Aktivität und Mobilität, Medikation, die soziale Unterstützung, eine mögliche Sturzgefährdung und Umgebungsfaktoren. Für diese Bereiche werden geeignete diagnotische Assessmentverfahren vorgestellt.
