Zusammenfassung

Heparin, the traditional anticoagulant, has a number of limitations. It is inhibited by platelet factor 4, only weakly active against clot-bound thrombin and it can activate platelets via the platelet GP Ilb/IIIa receptor. Furthermore the pharmacokinetics and dose-reponse curves are nonlinear leading to non- predictable anticoagulation effect.
