Crystal structure of Ti-N (titanium-nitride) system

Abstract

This chapter provides the lattice parameter and crystal structure of titanium nitride.

Intermediate Phases

Applying pressing of Ti powder and liquid nitrogen in a closed vessel, Shibuya et al. [98Shi] have prepared titanium nitride according to:
$$ \mathrm{Ti}+\frac{1}{2}\mathrm{N}2\to \mathrm{Ti}\mathrm{N}+336\mathrm{kJ}. $$

There results titanium nitride with the stoichiometry of TiN0,87 and cubic structure. Its lattice parameter amounts to a = 0.4230 nm.
