Abstract

Uranium activity in various natural materials is determined by gamma spectrometry. The content of uranium in these materials, can reach some tens ppm, and which is more or less in radioactive equilibrium with its daughters, principally radium and radon (immediate daughter of radium). In this work, we present the method used to determine the content uranium and its daughters in natural rocks and minerals. Gamma spectrometry with NaI (Tl) scintillation detector 3 × 3", with well of 1 × 2", and method of regions are used. Results obtained by this technique are in good agreement with those given by Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS).
