Performance of the detonation driven shock tunnel

Abstract

Detonation driver shock tunnel is a good way to be ground-based hypersonic flight experimental facility. With a convergent section ahead of the primary diaphragm in driver section, downstream mode is available to generate the high-enthalpy test flow. Large shock tunnel was set up in the Lab. of High-temperature-gas Dynamics (LHD), and elaborated in several years. The performance of the detonation shock tunnel to generate high-enthalpy and high-Reynolds number test flow is given in this paper, and a new way to burst the metal diaphragm under the downstream operation mode is discussed also.
