Cover Lenses, Films, and Coatings

Most touch-enabled products have a glass or plastic cover lens. Glass cover lenses are available in standard thicknesses. A glass cover lens is typically soda lime or aluminosilicate. Glass can undergo a chemical strengthening process to improve its scratch resistance and general strength. There are several key attributes of glass including tensile strength, compressive strength, shear strength, modulus of rupture, shear modulus, Young’s modulus, Poisson’s ratio, Knoop’s hardness, Vickers hardness, Mohs hardness, and dielectric constant. Plastic can be a better choice for some applications, but it also has several drawbacks. Cover lenses can be enhanced with a variety of films and coatings including silkscreen printing, AG, AR, oleophobic coating, and hydrophobic coating,
