G-Tube Troubleshooting: When Is It Unsafe to Replace? What Is the Best Way to Verify Placement? What Is the Best Approach to Bleeding/Pain/Drainage/Blockage?
Gastric tubes are common methods of enteral access in the chronically malnourished, neurologically injured, and those at risk for aspiration. The acute care provider frequently sees complications from these devices, including dislodgment, obstruction, infection, and bleeding. Management of these complications frequently allows patients to return home or to their chronic care facilities, sparing hospital admission.
