Peritoneal Dialysis in Adolescents with End-Stage Renal Disease

Adolescents with chronic illnesses, including ESRD, are a unique group of patients. Caretakers should be sensitive to their emotional and psychological needs and be cognizant of the toll chronic dialysis can take on them. This chapter discusses peritoneal dialysis treatment in adolescents. It addresses the advantages and challenges of the treatment in this age group in addition to patient selection, physiology, training, monitoring, and complications of treatment.
