This essay seeks to investigate the presence and the role played by the Irish Protestants who were admitted to the Ospizio dei Convertendi, a charitable foundation established in 1677 to assist and convert the Protestants who came to Rome. By examining some specific case studies of conversions, the essay will explain how these Irish Protestants decided to come to Rome, and through which networks. Particular attention will be devoted to the process of conversion, and how these Irish converts fitted within the “global” context of the Ospizio dei Convertendi.
