Abstract

The first part of this chapter provides a general overview of boycott activity in West Germany in the 1950s and 1960s, when comparisons with the antisemitic boycotts of the Nazis were omnipresent among contemporary observers. The second part examines various boycotts of the radical left that emerged in the context of the “new” social movements of the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980. The final part discusses anti-Israel or anti-Zionist boycotts as a particular example that highlights the moral and political explosiveness inherent in boycott campaigns.
