Abstract

While psychological empowerment can make a difference within organisations, it is not well utilised. In this chapter, the context that necessitated the study of psychological empowerment in relation to job satisfaction and job-related stress in the banking sector is discussed. The concept of empowerment, its dimensions and implications in organisations are explored with the support of research literature. The employee challenges in the emerging modern banking industry and the lack of studies on employee empowerment in this sector is the research area the authors have identified. The problem statement, objectives, research models and methodology proposed for the study are explained. The role of various cognition in its contribution to the general construct of psychological empowerment is also discussed.
