Increase of Efficiency in the Optical Fiber Area in a Manufacturing Company. A Case Study
Efficiency is one of the main parameters manufacturing companies want to improve. Defective products are negatively related to efficiciency. This chapter presents a case study of increase of efficiency in a manufacturing company, specifically in the optical fiber area (OFA). Initially, the OFA had a efficiency of 76.96%, which is unacceptable by the company, since the standard is ≥85%. Then, the objective of this project is to increase the efficiency of the OFA in a percentage within the srandard. To achieve this. The DMAIC method is applied. Results indicate that, once improvements ware implemented, total efficiency of the OFA was 90.17%, which is in the standard of the company. As conclusion, the DMAIC method is a valuable tool to increase the efficiency of manufacturing process. For this, it is recommended to apply this method in different proccess in the OFA.
