Equality, the Time of a Revelation
Apart from the early days of Revelation, the egalitarian spirit of the Qur’ān and the tradition of the Prophet were almost never realized on the ground of reality, in the lives of Muslims, and throughout the history of Islamic civilization. Equality remained confined in the sacred text of the Qur’ān and the example of the Prophet. Today, despite the resurgence of a spiritual renaissance and waves of successive reformers, demanding change, it has not yet resulted in the emergence of a true fundamental reform of Islamic sciences. The contributions of current “reformers” remains weak as they are still a minority, extremely overcautious, and confine themselves to rationalization and defensive discourses, rather than a profound reflection and effective contribution to current realities.
