Neuromuscular Scoliosis

  • Daniel Brian Carlin Reid

Neuromuscular scoliosis is defined as scoliosis in the setting of an underlying primary neuromuscular condition. Treatment protocols are different than for patients with idiopathic scoliosis and vary depending upon primary neuromuscular diagnosis. Neuromuscular scoliosis tends to be more rapidly progressive and results in higher overall complication rates. Multidisciplinary care and strategic planning is important when caring for these complex patients.
