Agile Strategy Setting

Chapter

Abstract

In the previous chapter, we explained the importance of understanding the organization’s sense of purpose. That is the reason the firm exists. Captured in a mission statement, this does not change often and indeed can remain the same for decades or even a century. This component of strategy management cannot be agile, and attempts to make it so will do little but suck out the essence of life from the enterprise. It will be left with no real meaning—no soul (Fig. 3.1).
