Readiness of Smart City: Emerging Economy Perspective

Urban settings have been changed by rapid inflow of rural people. Consequently, more improvements have become necessary for the cities to make them livable. This ignited the idea of creation of smart cities for improving urbanization in general. The developed economies long back adopted this idea, and now emerging economies are also adopting the idea of creation of smart cities. The cities of emerging economies are facing problems owing to rapid inflow of rural people there. It is essential that those people are to be kept aware of the modernity of smart cities so that there is unhindered adoption of technological advanced services to be provided to them. For this, studies are to be conducted to assess their behavioral and attitudinal patterns with the help of available relevant technology adoption theories or models. Besides, for shaping ideal smart cities, the emerging economies are improving their infrastructure with proper readiness to create smart cities. The purpose of this paper is to study these aspects including keeping the city authorities ready to handle any unforeseen eventuality. For achieving these goals, a conceptual model has been proposed for planning and successful implementation of future smart cities.
