Abstract
Diving has become a popular recreational sport. With increasing numbers of people who are enjoying this sport, diving accidents increasingly occur. Therefore, it is important for physicians to be informed about injuries and dangers related to diving. The chapter “Diving Medicine” tries to outline the aetiology, symptoms, treatments and prevention detailed in a hopefully understandable way. In this book a new classification of barotraumas is included, whether the damage is due to increasing or decreasing pressure (hyper-/hypobaric or positive-/negative-pressure barotrauma).
