  • Sidi Traore

Following a description about the constitutional provisions in Burkina Faso, the chapter illustrates, first of all, the legal and institutional framework for the protection and support of the intangible cultural heritage in the country, also analysing possible pathways and perspectives to improve its preservation, and the safeguarding actions undertaken for its identification and promotion, and through the international cooperation initiatives. Further, the chapter focuses on some case studies concerning practices and know-how related to traditional textile craft, portraying the case of weaving and dyeing, and the elaboration of a multinational nomination entitled “Cultural expressions and practices related to the balafon of the Senoufo communities in Mali and Burkina Faso” meant to bring forth the relevance of the element of Senoufo for the cross-border communities and to investigate the effects of the inscription on the Representative List of ICH of UNESCO.
