Surgical Treatment of Calcaneal Fractures

Abstract

The fracture of the calcaneus is a relative frequent injury, including about 2% of all fractures. Classification, type of treatment and indications must be considered, and they orient the surgical planning. The goals of the surgery, the surgical technique and the postoperative care are the main topics that need a careful consideration in the several types of surgeries feasible for these fractures: percutaneous techniques, external fixation or open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF).
