Hindfoot wounds can be a difficult problem to treat given the unforgiving anatomy of the hindfoot. It is important to establish and address the underlying cause of the wound. Should non-operative measures not lead to satisfactory healing, there are several surgical options beyond debridement to help promote wound healing. These options include plantar exostectomy of the calcaneus, partial calcanectomy, total calcanectomy, and amputations.
