Nipple-Areolar Complex Reconstruction with Acellular Dermal Matrix
Abstract
Acellular dermal matrix such as AlloDerm™ has been used for breast reconstruction with implants and tissue expander coverage for years. In any breast reconstruction, the formation of the nipple-areolar complex is a particular challenge that is of importance to the cosmetic outcome. This author describes a method of nipple-areolar complex reconstruction with acellular dermal matrix used as an onlay graft. This technique allows for the creation of a realistic-appearing nipple-areolar complex after mastectomy without the donor site morbidity associated with a full-thickness skin graft. Patients undergoing this technique had minimal complications and were satisfied with their aesthetic outcomes.
