Determination of Nitric Acid in Nitrating Mixtures

  • F. Oehme

Using the principle of injection enthalpiemetry the determination of HNO3 in nitrating mixtures can be carried out. The analytical reaction is the nitration of benzene which reacts rapidly and — depending on the ratio of sample and benzene — selectively with HNO3. The repeatability of the method within a concentration range of 20 to 60% wt./wt, of HNO3 is about ±0, 4% HNO3. The new method compares favorable with other analytical method used until now.
