A New Instrument for Simultaneous Differential Thermal Analysis and Thermomicroscopy

Abstract

The correlation between morphological or structural changes and DTA-recordings can give valuable additional information on the mechanism of phase transformations. This fact gave the impulse for the development of a new instrument for simultaneous Differential Thermal Analysis (DTA) and Ther-momicroscopy in transmitted light, where a DTA device is placed into a commercially available hot stage. A synopsis of the versatile application is given including the measurement of binary phase diagrams, the study of melting processes and nucleation in crystallisation.
